Sanyo Unveils 50% More Powerful Blue Lasers for DVD Recorders

According to a recent Nikkei Report, Sanyo has introduced a new blue laser diode, claimed to triple the writing speed of the existing blue lasers for use in DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) recorders to 6x for double layer discs, up from the current 2x. The company stated that this invention, which is applicable for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD (High Definition) recorders, is scheduled to begin commercialization in late 2007.
